Done with the building phase, now it's on to basing and paint.
I have to say, this model came together quickly and easily, where all of the design decisions just seemed to flow. Very little second guessing on parts, and everything just seemed to fit. Aside from the Cairn Wraith's robes, and a couple of bits from the Skitarii box (the Omnispex face and some hoses from a backpack), most of this was cannibalized from the Tech Priest Dominus model - an expensive figure to chop up, but considering the utility I got out of it, the sacrifice was well worth it.
This little guy is one rad Magos. I feel it is one of the best uses of that wraith/reaper model I have ever seen. I love his head, and how you perfectly placed placed his pistol arm such that it looks sort of cradled against is mechanical antigravity belly. Good use for those spine pieces too, something I never thought would have a suitable place!
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot! There are those kits like the Cairn Wraith and Nurgle Lord (especially in the Inq community) that get so much use, it's daunting to try and do your own thing with them. I don't think I broke new ground with the Wraith kit, but I'm really happy with the Magos here...I really need to give him a name soon.
DeleteThe gun placement was both an original intention, and a happy accident in that the arm placement of the robes allowed it to work so well - the way the wrist is angled on the robes forced the gun to sit naturally at that angle which I had intended it to do anyway, so lucky me.
He has an air about him of a decrepit plantation owner sitting on his porch with a rifle resting across his pot-belly.
I think that this might be my favorite miniature that I have seen converted from the Mechanicus kits (and I have seen a lot). He/she looks very much at home with the other Mechanicum releases, but distinctly different from everything that GW has released. As Eric mentions, the use of the Warhammer Reaper model is particularly inspired.
ReplyDeleteWow, thanks! I really appreciate that. Now you get to see me mess it all up with the paintjob!
DeleteVery nice odie! I feel like that sensor bit is way better suited as a face than its original intention. Look forward to seeing him painted
ReplyDeleteThanks! I totally agree about the face. I chose to use the lens side here, but he other side of the bit with the oscilloscope-screen would make a great face for something as well.
DeleteOh definitely its the face i planned to use on my abominant whenever i get around to finishing him
DeleteThis is excellent information for everyone. I get a lot of useful information. Thank you a lot. By the way, I'm a gamer, and I'd like to recommend a shader pack for Minecraft to you. You can get the BSL Shaders set here, and I'm sure you'll enjoy it.
